Waterfront Toronto

DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN OF TRANSPORTATION STAGES MAPS

CHALLENGE

Toronto’s new blue edge is the culmination of years of planning. It’s where the city and Lake Ontario merge. The transformation of the Queens Quay, Toronto’s waterfront promenade, will be a massive undertaking beginning in 2012 with a scheduled completion date of 2014. TWG communications was handed the task of designing a series of info-graphic maps to depict transportation project stages, traffic flow, and public transit TTC routes. The maps would serve as a central element in the projects communications tool kit and as a key part of the education and information campaign for local residents, businesses, tourists and the media.

INSIGHT AND KEY CONSIDERATIONS

The info-graphic materials required, needed to be visually appealing, highly detailed, accurate, informative, and easy to understand. The info-graphic maps needed to communicate in telling the project story in a clear and concise manner.

IMPLEMENTATION

Utilizing existing project materials including engineering drawings, relevant project information was translated and repurposed for the designed info-graphic maps. The maps also utilized imagery, service descriptions and Waterfront Toronto branding.

RESULTS

The info-graphic maps have received positive feedback and TWG is proud to be a part of this exciting and transformative undertaking on Toronto’s waterfront.
