DEVELOPMENT OF SPORTS BRAND AND WEBSITE

CHALLENGE

When an individual is the brand, the challenge in developing a website is to keep it intimate enough for visitors to glimpse the person but corporate enough to maintain brand messaging. As Greece’s most celebrated footballer, and team captain, Giorgos Karagounis is a household name. Leading his team to three consecutive EURO Championship appearances (2004 Winner, 2008, 2012) and a FIFA 2010 World Cup qualification, he has earned his spot as a true national sports icon. Karagounis has had a stellar career including playing stints with European giants such as Inter Milan of Italy, Benfica of Portugal, and the prominent Greek club Panathinaikos.

INSIGHT AND KEY CONSIDERATIONS

The Karagounis site had to be bilingual, Greek and English, to appeal to domestic and international visitors. Professional images, both still and video, would have to be accommodated and presented in a visually compelling context. A player profile, career accomplishments, news and updates, and links to complimentary sites also needed to be incorporated.

The overall look and feel of the site had to convey Karagounis’ love of the game and his passion for the sport as a Greek ambassador on the international stage.

IMPLEMENTATION

Built on a Content Managed Platform (CMS) the site allows the client to easily update content in real time. New visual brand elements were developed and built within the site’s architecture, integrating video and social media components. The project was completed and launched within established timelines.

RESULTS
